Welcome and hello.

I am the Amelia behind Amelia’s Garden Flowers, a small flower farm and floral design studio situated between Prosperous and Allenwood, Co. Kildare.

Flowers are in my blood – my grandfather grew tulips in the hilly fields of Co. Monaghan for the Dublin flower market in the 1950s and both my grandmothers were keen gardeners with beautiful gardens in England and Ireland.  My mother too is an avid gardener and grows a large variety of unusual vegetables as well as flowers.

I have been growing flowers for the past 10 years, experimenting and trialling what works as a great cut flower and in 2016 I started Amelia’s Garden Flowers in order to fill a gap in the market for beautiful, sustainable flowers.

Around this time, I attended a floristry course and when I told the instructor that I was setting up a wedding business using only Irish grown flowers, she told me that it was not possible.  The course was all about using floral foam, endless wires and I knew that this was not the type of floristry business I wanted to run. It only made me more determined to make a business using only Irish flowers and without using floral foam.

In 2019, I studied Flower Farming under Floret and I also undertook floristry courses with The Flower Appreciation Society, London, and Environmental Floristry under Shane Connolly who is also based in London. I have not looked back since and have committed to never again using floral foam in my work.

Sustainability is a core belief in my business and when growing the flowers I do so with respect for the environment. I am passionate about creating as low a carbon footprint as possible in my business and I love the joy that my flowers bring to those that both give and receive them.

My speciality is growing and arranging seasonal garden-style Irish flowers with a concentration on unusual and scented varieties that are often difficult to import.

Between the months of April and October, I create luxurious flower bouquets using beautiful flowers and foliage picked straight out of my biodiverse cutting garden. I always pick what is freshest and at its best which means each bouquet is unique and special to the customer.

During the autumn and winter periods, I concentrate on using dried flowers that I have grown and dried.  These are very popular with out of season weddings and make a lovely everlasting keepsake.

Flowers bring joy and happiness and I am so grateful to be able to work with them and to my customers who support my blooming business.
